Possible portfolio designs.
I'm gonna convert this to a vert design navigation.

Might actually code this hahaha

sorry dont like it at all. the header is hmm, dunno, horrible. the buttons are way to big. the colors are a bit boring. if you use colors, use some that gain attention and look good. did i allready mention that the buttons are way to big? remember the most people on the internet are able to see, they arent blind! sounds maybe a bit like hard critique but it is like that. the people will find the navigation even if it is smaller and it looks much better when it is smaller. i would say you should brows more design blogs, design sites and take inspiration from other portfolios. if you want a honest opinion on this, trash it and restart!
BUT, before you restart take some time a do some research and rly take a look at other peoples portfolios. its useless to put a portfolio on the internet that has a bad design. because it represents you, YOU! i wouldnt be satisfied with this.

just my opinion

edit:

brows these sites

http://browse.deviantart.com/designs/?orde...gns/web&order=9

http://www.fairspot.com/

there you should get a lot of good examples!

with the actual test coding i'm doing. i think it's pretty good =\
it's simple. nothing flashy. I don't need all that flare.

i respect yo' opinion skulls, but here's mine

You say a portfolio represents YOU.
That's exactly what it does. My header, contains my little logo, which actually represents me as well. It's very "immature" and fun looking.

The portfolio being simple is part of my journalism nerve.
Modular layout. Everything will fit into one simple rectangle.

My simplicity was planned. I'm definitely changing the flat black background to something. But as I said, nothing flashy.

But I'm also making a vertical navigation as well.
With the coding I have done, I feel it's a pretty good portfolio. If I could find a place to host I would =\ to show you.

yeah maybe its like you said and it fits or is good enough for YOU!
but what i try tell you is, its not good executed design work! to get a well executed design you should have some knowledge about design theory. how do people react on differnet shapes colors and how is the psychological effect on them. what do you try to tell the people with the design? i rly dont know how to explain it to you, my english is not that good.
i even think that the logo is not good. blue and pink in these tones is not a good combination. the letters are just pentooled and dont fit with the font. what does your logo tell? for me it looks more like a logo for a toystore.
like you said, the logo is immature and fun looking. for example the combination of fun looking and immature doesnt fit very well with the simplicity of the rest! there is no red line in the design. its just random and thats the effect it would have on clients. it dont looks like a serious portfolio, more like some guy who randomly puts some stuff together.

it feels like a pretty good protfolio? trust me, it isnt. i am not trying to offend you or something. i just want to give you the advice to redesign it and before you do it read some stuff on design and do some research. a portfolio isnt made in 2 hours, the most people work for weeks on logos, designs ect. and let me tell you, the design work is not the biggest part of the work. It is the thinking, researching, sketching ideas and so on.

edit: and i am sure you dont took one look at the second link i posted! because you would have seen that the most designers ARE MAKING SIMPLE NON FLASHY portfolios. wink.gif
just much better executed!

be a bit more self critical!

but i am pretty sure you wont take my advice anyway, so forget the whole stuff i wrote above. smile.gif

my opinion on that thing is ... the colors are aweful, and its kind of boring.

i see the idea behind that thing but - even if it disappoints you (and i can understand that aswell) - it's just like teh skullzor said, badly executed.

/edit: also ... i cant imagine that thing have took you more than 10 minutes of time O-o ... seriously... if you want a serious portfolio you have to take more time and think about the whole concept more wink.gif

I don't think it looks really bad actually.. lol?
About the big buttons; that's just taste I guess. I don't think it really matters if u want to use big or small buttons.
But I do think the overall thing looks a bit boring, it looks cool now because parts of your artworks are in it, but maybe u wanted them to come out.. so laugh.gif
(Maybe a nice pattern on the background will look awesome.)

But if u want this to be pretty professional, then i do agree with skulls on this:
